About MuseumBlogs.org
MuseumBlogs.org is a directory of museum and museum-related blogs as well as a space for re-postings and roundups. The purpose of the site is to raise awareness and increase the authority of blogs focusing on museum issues. Authority is used by search engines to filter results. The more links, the more authority and more visible a blog will become.
The Directory
A publicly editable, moderated directory provides a central website for listings to museum and museum-related blogs.
The Blog
We encourage re-posting from qualified blogs and bloggers. The aim of MuseumBlogs.org is to drive visitors to other museum blogs and increase their authority. If you're interested in re-posting or creating roundups which focus on the museum blog world, please feel free to contact us for password and log in information.
Who and Why?
This site was developed by Ideum. We're a small design company that develops interactive exhibits and websites for museums. The idea for MuseumBlogs.org came about after we developed a survey of museum blogs & community sites in March of 2006. One of the major outcomes was that the vast majority of museum blogs lack authority which was covered in a follow up post on the Ideum blog. It's our hope that MuseumBlogs.org will help increase communities’ awareness and authority.
Policies
MuseumBlogs.org is run as a public service and encourages community participation. The site does not accept commercial advertising of any kind.

This show was recorded, edited, and mixed all on Sunday hence the late posting!!. This week: "Grub" a compost minded exhibit by Claire Pentecost organized, mulled, and presented by 13 SAIC grad students. Brian Andrews checks in from Portland where apparently all of the SF Hipster are fleeing to. Duncan and Richard muck through the Hollywood notion of an art show, but in real life, and do a couple quickie reviews of work at Lisa Boyle, Three Walls, Western Exhibitions, and a couple other places. In a shocking turn of events, the Raymond Pettibon interview is postponed until after the art fairs.
Apologies for the editorial slop this week, I was in a hurry.
Real show note to follow soon!
PLEASE contact us if you wish to help us out at the art fair.

Museum director John Schloder explains: “Museums used to be totally supported by small groups of wealthy patrons. That’s changed. If we’re going to sustain ourselves, we have to devise new models to make us vital to everyone’s life.”

The Smithsonian Business Ventures (SBV) deal with Showtime has caused quite a stir in the filmmaking community. Museums must strike a careful balance between protecting their long-term sustainability (read: $$) and staying true to their public service missions.

There has been a lot of press about the National Museum of American History’s new collecting initative, “
Hip-Hop Won?t Stop: The Beat, The Rhymes, The Life.” Some say the project will “
help the museum’s street cred” while others wonder if the Smithsonian’s interest means that hip-hop is dead. Some voices decry hip-hop as a misogynistic and violent form of expression that has no place in the nation’s museum, while others highlight the need for a historical understanding of hip-hop–comparing it to America’s other (and less controversial) original music genre: jazz.
